Monarch Butterfly Migration Patterns II

Building off of the 2D butterfly visualization, I decided to explore the ways in which this data set (of monarch butterfly migration patterns) would manifest itself within multidimensional space.

As the light moves across the sculpture, the figure oscillates within the layered etched plexiglass. While the data set no longer acts as a scientific education tool, the etched lines catch the light, creating a murmuring dance that mimics the movement of the winged creature in flight. The form follows the cadence of the light: appearing and disappearing, breathing in and out, and flocking side to side.
